Nash Klych

Nash Klych, no.4(6), 30 March 1946

Nash Klych [“Our call”, «Наш Клич»] – a Ukrainian-language bulletin published in the United Kingdom, which was the forerunner of the Ukrainska Dumka newspaper.

There were 19 issues of the bulletin, dated from 18 November 1945 to 19 January 1947. It appeared approximately monthly until the end of 1946 when it became a weekly publication. The first three issues were published by the forerunner of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), initially known as the Association of Ukrainian Soldiers in the Polish Armed Forces and subsequently renamed Self-Reliance Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (SAUGB). From issue no. 4 dated 29 January 1946 the bulletin was published by the AUGB. Until October 1946 the bulletin’s editor was Petro Pihichyn. Thereafter, the AUGB Executive assumed editorial responsibility. The bulletin contained, in the main, information about the activities of the SAUGB (and subsequently the AUGB), practical advice for the newly-arrived Ukrainians in the UK, news concerning events in Ukraine and the life of Ukrainians in various countries around the world, and articles on topics from Ukrainian history. On 22 January 1947 the AUGB Executive decided to change the name of the bulletin to Ukrainska Dumka (“Ukrainian Thought”).

A complete set of issues of Nash Klych is held in the Shevchenko Library and Archive in London.
